Reserve Sense includes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that lets supported AI assistants work with your Reserve Sense account directly. After you sign in and authorize access, your assistant can look up reports, read component details, and create or update components on your behalf — using the same permissions as your Reserve Sense account.
MCP access is tied to your organization. You must already have a Reserve Sense account with access to the reports you want your assistant to work with.

What you can do

Through MCP, an AI assistant can:
  • Find reports in your organization by report ID (for example, RS-3) or property name
  • Update reports & properties fields as seen on the “Inputs” tab of a report
  • Read and write Historical financial data for a report (opening balances, operating budget, contributions, levies, transfers, and expenditures by component by year)
  • List components in a report property section, including narrative fields and expected lifespan
  • Reorder components within a property section (move before or after another component)
  • List library components in your organization’s component library templates (organization admins only)
  • Add components from the library into a report property section (the usual way to add a component — copies costing and stages from the template)
  • Create additional stages on a report component (copies costing from the first stage)
  • Create custom report components when you need a one-off component that is not linked to the library
  • Create library components in your organization’s master component library (organization admins only)
  • Update components in a report, or in your component library if you are an organization admin
  • Update component stage costing (for example custom total, quantity, tax)
  • Update takeoff quantities and other formula costing references (for example, Area or Building Foundation)
  • List and update costing matrix lines, including choosing which line is live in a pick-one group
  • Delete components from a report property section
Report add, create, and delete actions apply to components inside a specific report and require components:write. Updating report Inputs and Historical financials (dates, rates, balances, incomes, and expenditures) requires reports:write. Updating property details such as name and address requires properties:write. Listing and creating or updating the organization’s component library templates requires organization admin access and separate elevated permissions (library_components:read / library_components:write) granted during authorization.

How to Install

Select your AI assistant below and follow the steps to connect Reserve Sense.
ChatGPT connects to Reserve Sense as a custom connector over a secure HTTPS endpoint. You do not need to install anything or edit configuration files.
Creating, updating, and deleting components may require a ChatGPT plan and workspace settings that allow write-capable connectors. If ChatGPT can list reports but cannot make changes, check your ChatGPT plan and app permissions (or ask your workspace admin).Use ChatGPT on the web at chatgpt.com. Confirm your Reserve Sense account can access the reports you want to work with. If your organization uses ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Education, your workspace admin may need to allow custom connectors and write-capable apps.
1

Enable Developer Mode

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Plugins
  3. Open Advanced settings at the bottom of the page
  4. Turn on Developer mode and accept the prompt
When Developer mode is on, a Create app button appears under Apps.
2

Create the Reserve Sense connector

  1. In Settings, go to PluginsCreate
  2. Fill in the connector details:
    • NameReserve Sense (or any name you prefer)
    • Description — optional; for example, “Look up reserve fund study reports and manage components”
    • Connector URLhttps://api.reservesense.com/mcp
  3. Set Authentication to OAuth
  4. Click Create
If the connection succeeds, ChatGPT shows the Reserve Sense tools it discovered.
Only connect to https://api.reservesense.com/mcp. Do not enter MCP URLs from unknown sources.
3

Use Reserve Sense in a chat

  1. Start a new chat
  2. Click the + button near the message composer, then More
  3. Select your Reserve Sense connector to add it to the conversation
  4. Ask ChatGPT to work with your reports — for example, “List my reports” or “Add a Roofing~Membrane component to report RS-3”
ChatGPT may ask you to confirm before making changes, depending on your app permission settings. You can adjust these under Settings → Apps.
4

Reset authorization

  1. Open Settings → Apps
  2. Open your Reserve Sense connector
  3. Disconnect or remove the connector, then create it again and complete the authorization flow

Examples

Here is a common pattern when asking your assistant to work with Reserve Sense:
Add the “Envelope~Windows” library component to the “RS-123” Reserve Sense report.
Set the expected lifespan of the “Exterior Windows” component to 25 years in the “RS-123” Reserve Sense report.

Troubleshooting

Developer mode or Create is not availableDeveloper mode may be disabled for your ChatGPT workspace. Ask your workspace admin to enable custom connectors, or use a personal ChatGPT account that supports Developer mode. The connector fails to createConfirm the connector URL is exactly https://api.reservesense.com/mcp with OAuth selected as the authentication method.ChatGPT can read reports but cannot create or update componentsYour ChatGPT plan or workspace may restrict write-capable connectors. Check Settings → Apps for permission levels, or ask your workspace admin about connected app permissions.
Add custom connector is not availableConfirm you are on a supported Claude plan. Free accounts can add one custom connector; higher limits apply on paid plans. The connector fails to connectConfirm the URL is exactly https://api.reservesense.com/mcp. Remote MCP servers must be added under Settings → Connectors, not in claude_desktop_config.json.A workspace admin must add the connector firstOn Team and Enterprise plans, ask your admin to add the connector under Admin settings → Connectors, then connect to it from your own Settings → Connectors page.
Model Context Protocol is not available when adding a toolConfirm you are in a Copilot Studio environment that supports MCP tools, and that your account can create custom connectors. Ask your Power Platform admin if MCP or custom connectors are restricted. The tool fails to create or connectConfirm the server URL is exactly https://api.reservesense.com/mcp, authentication is OAuth 2.0, and the OAuth type is Dynamic discovery. Do not use Manual OAuth unless Reserve Sense support has given you client credentials.Connection works in the maker experience but tools fail at runtimePower Platform data policies can block custom connectors used by MCP. Ask your admin to allow the Reserve Sense connector for the environment, then recreate the connection.
The browser does not open for sign-inTry removing and recreating the connector. Make sure pop-ups are allowed and that you complete the Reserve Sense sign-in and consent screens.Tools are missing after connectingComplete the authorization flow and click Allow on the consent screen. If you previously denied access, reset authorization and try again. The assistant cannot find a reportConfirm you signed in with an account that has access to the organization and report. Ask your assistant to list reports using the exact report ID or property name.Changes fail with a permissions errorYour Reserve Sense role may not allow editing components in that report. Check access in the Reserve Sense app, or ask an organization admin to adjust your permissions. To revoke access without removing the connector in your assistant, contact info@reservesense.com and we can help disable the connection from our side.
